Halloween Flag Costume Ideas
I think a lot of people would be surprised to know that Halloween is a pretty popular season for the flag industry! Why? Well, Holiday Decorations play a part. After all, what other holiday brings so many strangers to your door? Aside from Christmas, it may also be the most decorated holiday of the year in the United States. For us, Halloween banners are a very popular item and fly out the door as soon as the weather takes its turn. The most interesting part that we play is in the costumes though.
Halloween Costumes. You may not have thought of this one before, but there are lots of Halloween costumes that require a flag of one sort or another. How many of these characters have you seen roaming your neighborhood in late October?
The Hero: Tried and true, available and classic. The American Soldier costume has as many variations as there are service branches and uniforms for each but it’s a popular Halloween costume and it’s here to stay! How do you know that the little soldier on your step is an American soldier? The flag patch on his or her arm of course!
The Politician: This could be a current or past President, President Elect, or any other public official running for office, but almost always requires a small American flag and/or a prominent flag pin.
A popular costume to fall into this category is Sarah Palin. Who hasn’t seen the photo of her wrapped in the American Flag?
Or you could be one of the Bushs like these folks.
Celebrities: Often times, these costumes fit into the “against flag code” category but we do see our fair share of them during the Halloween season each year. Among the most popular is Ginger Spice of the UK Band, Spice Girls in her UK Flag inspired ensemble.
More recently Lady Gaga has taken to the flag costume category with an American Flag inspired bikini-type outfit.
Historical Figures: With a proper bonnet, a full dress and a Betsy Ross 13 Star Flag, you could pull off this character from the history books!
The Athlete: The olympics are always full of wonderful, colorful flags and role models. It could also be a great opportunity to celebrate your heritage. Throw on a track suit and drape a flag around your neck for the easy costume, or add on a flag patch and a gold medal for the full effect. Find your country flag.
