Stede Bonnet, known as the "Gentleman Pirate," was a wealthy Barbadian landowner who abandoned his privileged life in 1717 to pursue piracy despite having no seafaring experience. He purchased a ship, Revenge, and awkwardly attempted piracy before partnering with the infamous Blackbeard, who ultimately took control of Bonnet’s crew. After a brief attempt to go straight, Bonnet returned to piracy but was captured in 1718. He was hanged later that year in Charleston, South Carolina, marking a dramatic and tragic end to his unlikely criminal career.
