The Hulbert flag is believed to have been flown as early as 1775 during the movement to capture Fort Ticonderoga from the British forces. With 13 stars and stripes this flag would qualify as one of the earliest examples of the American Flag on record. Historians still debate the exact origins of the flag and when it was originally made, as there is evidence of later repairs to the flag that cloud the record somewhat. The original flag is on display at the Suffolk County Historical Society in New York State.
