Origins of the Battle of Plattsburgh Veterans Exempt Flag
This flag dates to the War of 1812 and the Battle of Plattsburgh (a.k.a. Battle of Lake Champlain). Although their is scant proof it was ever flown during battle, the flag is attributed to the Veterans Exempt, a New York State militia group that was formed in July of 1812 and led by Captain Melvin Woolsey. The group was made up of Revolutionary War veterans who were otherwise exempt from military service due to their age, but who volunteered their service during the Battle of Plattsburgh nonetheless, and provided a valuable reserve in a time of crisis.

Ken asksApr 8, 2024
Can this flag be embroidered?
Gettysburg Flag answers Apr 9, 2024
Sure! I am going to pass this request along to our sales team but you can also submit a request here: https://www.gettysburgflag.com/custom/get-quote
This is my second flag from Gettysburg Flagworks, same great quality, and manufacturing as our Culpeper Flag. I've enjoyed the workmanship so much that I replaced my yearly American flag with a battle-tough flag and it's stood up to some harsh weather thus far. Appreciate all this company does to keep our history alive.

Just wanted you to know that we received our Grand Union and Battle of Plattsburgh flags and we are very pleased and proud to fly them. And I enjoy explaining to people about the history of them. We will probably order again at some point in the future.
