The stars on this design differ than the traditional 15 Star American Historical Flag in that they are slightly askew (or canted) to match the original artifact from Fort McHenry.

The Star Spangled Banner at Fort McHenry
The Fort McHenry flag was the second United States flag known as the Star Spangled Banner. It was used to represent the addition of two new states to the union in the year 1795. Vermont and Kentucky were the 14th and 15th state to join the United States which required the US to update the Betsy Ross flag.

About the Star Spangled Banner Flag Design
This flag added 2 stars and 2 stripes, as the original design thought process was to add a star and stripe for every new state that joined the union. This was amended, as it became clear that adding a stripe for every state would start to become quite confusing to look at! How long will this flag last?
Our flags are built to last anywhere between 6 and 18 months on average. We routinely see people buying replacement flags 2-3 years apart, but can't guarantee any specific performance, as there is a wide range of possible climates people fly their flags in!

Why are there 15 stripes on this flag?
Originally, the leaders of the U.S. thought that for every state that was added to the Union, they would add a star and a stripe to the national flag! it became clear that adding stripes would become impossible with the territories that would eventually become states so they changed their minds! This was the only flag that was not made with 13 stripes!
