The Hostage and Wrongful Detainees Flag serves as a reminder of Americans being kept abroad and focuses on the efforts to bring them home. Recently enacted into law, the "U.S. Hostage and Wrongful Detainee Day Act" codifies March 9th as the official day of observance of their plight, authorizing the flying of this flag in position of honor at specified Federal locations on that day and select other days throughout the year, including Flag Day and Independence Day.
