The flag of French Polynesia is a red/white/red horizontal tricolor with a symbolic image in the center stripe. The imagry consists of the traditional Polynesian canoe (called a piroque) sailing under a golden sun. The 5 figures sailing the canoe represent each of the 5 island groups: Austral, Gambier, Marquesas, Society and Tuamotu.
